Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is this cane good for using after a knee replacement?

A. Whether checking the mailbox at your home or apartment, leaving your favorite restaurant after a late night out with friends or just walking for exercise, if you need a cane to help support you then this one is just for you. Your safety is assured because these stun sticks are made of high grade aircraft aluminum and will support 250 pounds, and there is a spare rubber tip included. If you don't need a cane for support but love the concept of a stun baton with a really long handle for extended reach, check out our Hike ‘n Strike 950,000 Volts Stun Walking Stick!

Q. What kind of battery does it use?

A. It has a built-in Ni-MH rechargeable battery, and comes with an external AC adapter to charge it up so you won't have to change batteries.

Q. How bright is the flashlight?

A. Very bright so you can use it to temporarily blind an attacker.

Q. Is the height of the cane adjustable?

A. Yes! You can adjust the length from 2'8" to 3' (32" to 36"). It is secured by tightening the locking ring, so you have to be sure to tighten that. I've had complaints about the cane collapsing, but then I found out that did not tighten the ring properly.

Q. How strong is the stun gun?

A. One million volts of muscle seizing incapacitation with 4.6 Milli-amps of pain!

Q. Does it work on dogs?

A. Absolutely! The long conductive area allows you to stun the dog while pushing it away from you. With a regular hand held stun gun you would run the risk of being bitten while reaching down to stun the dog, and the Zap Cane stun gun eliminates that risk. And what does a dog instinctively do when you put a stick in his face? In this case he'll place a million volts right in his mouth!

Q. Is it legal in California?

A. Yes, there are no restrictions on stun guns in California. See our Product Restrictions Pageon Stun Guns. It's a long page, so I hashed out this index to make it easier:

Q. Can this go in your checked luggage on an airplane?

A. Yes, the TSA will allow Stun Guns/Shocking Devices in checked bags only, so they are prohibited in carry-on bags or on your person. Check the SOURCEhere and enter "stun" in the search box.

Q. Can the rubber tip be replaced?

A. Yes, in fact this cane comes with a replacement rubber tip in the box so you won't have to order another one anytime soon.

Q. Does it actually have to touch the dog or attacker?

A. Yes it does. The Zap Cane stun gun is a contact-stun weapon, which means you must touch the offending beast with the electrodes located on the sides of the cane covering a full 7-1/2 inches (which gives you some extra room). Note that the tip of the cane has no electrodes and jabbing the offending beast with the tip will have no electrical shock effects unless they grab it or swat it away

Q. Can you go into a store with security at the doors?

A. Yes you can, since it doesn't have an RFID tag and won't set off the detectors. Those are for product theft, not electrical devices.

Q. Why can't this item be shipped to Casco, MI?

A. Since most of the voters in Michigan voted Democrat, they (the Democrat politicians in Michigan) saw fit (as usual) to tell you what is best for you, and they made stun guns illegal there. If you want freedom, do not vote Democrat. Ever.

Q. I live in Louisiana where it is very humid, is this a good device to use in this type of environment?

A. Yes, it's fine, which makes it fine for a walk in the park, even after a spring shower rather than sitting at home.

Q. Does it ship to Florida?

A. Yes, because the Democrats in Florida do not yet outnumber the Republicans there, therefore Stun Guns are still LEGAL in Florida!

Q. Will this cane kill a rat?

A. No, the amperage is not sufficient to kill anything. It will, however, if you can put the contacts on the rat before it runs away, stun the rat into immobilization if you can keep it lit up long enough (5-10 seconds).

Q. Can you put this in your carry-on luggage on a plane?

A. No, because the TSA considers it to be a weapon, and it must be in your checked luggage.

Q. Are tasers legal in Minnesota?

A. Yes, and so are stun guns. Please note that they are not the same thing. Taser International (now Axon) makes a stun weapon which shoots projectile barbs and have 15 feet of wire attached, and a stun gun has electrodes on it which you must press into the attacker.

Q. Does it come with a warranty?

A. Yes, a two year manufacturer warranty so you can have peace of mind.

Q. Is it water resistant?

A. Most stun guns are not resistant to water, therefore I would assume not. But contacting dew on plants should not be a problem as it only happens on the business end. However, I would be more cautious and not use it in regular to torrential rainfalls. It probably will be fine in mist to light rain, and if it does fail, it has a 1 year warranty, so trade it in.

Q. What is the lowest length that this cane can be collapsed to for carrying?

A. 32". The Zap Cane stun gun is not a collapsible cane. It is a sturdy 32"~36" adjustable aluminum cane with a stun gun on the end, therefore cannot be concealed.

Q. Will it shock through what people are wearing?

A. Yes, it can penetrate through 2" of heavy clothing, so a winter jacket is no match for the Zap Cane stun gun.

Q. I walk with a cane at all times and require a 37" tall cane. Will it extend to 37"?

A. Sorry, it only extends to 36", therefore this would not be a good fit for you. Missed it by that much.

Q. How many amps?

A. 4.6 Milli-amps. Anything between 100~200 mA is lethal.

Q. Does this have to be registered with local law enforcement?

A. No, because the Constitution guarantees your right to keep and bear arms in the 2nd amendment. It is none of the Government's business.

Q. Will your cane stop an attacking pit bull?

A. You bet! In fact, this is the BEST stun gun to repel a dog attack as this stun stick is over 30" long! And since the electrodes are on the sides rather than the tip, just whack the dog with the end of your Zap Cane stun gun and that should do the trick!

Q. Will it work against pumas?

A. It will, if you can keep the electrodes in contact with the puma in question for long enough. You're more likely to be eaten by a Grue, therefore I think Bear spray would be a better defense against a Puma/Wildcat in my opinion.

Q. Will it fit for both hands?

A. Yes, since the handle is symmetric it feels the same in either hand.

Q. How long after discharging it before it can be used again? As in, if you were attacked by 2 people, how long before hitting the second one?

A. There is no waiting since it will discharge continuously until the battery is exhausted.

Q. Will this product stop a charging pit bull?

A. If deployed properly it will. Hold it with both hands and place it between you and the dog and fire it continuously once the dog is close. The sound alone may stop him, but if not then most likely the dog will instinctively try to bite the stick, not move around it, and taking 1 million volts on the tongue would certainly drop him (and you thought that 9 volt battery on your tongue was uncomfortable).

Q. Can the carrying case be attached to your belt as a holster when you want your hands free?

A. You could, but that would be a little awkward and bulky. A better way would be to adjust the strap so that you can sling it over your shoulder. Depending on how hands-free you wanted to be and for how long you could also hang the Zap Cane stun gun from your forearm temporarily.

Q. How many times can I use it before the battery needs recharging?

A. The manufacturer's website claims up to 500 times, presumably that is not using the flashlight.
